How to use lemongrass essential oil in glass spray bottle for cleaning

by sng creations 22 Jul 2023

Using lemongrass essential oil in a glass spray bottle for cleaning can be a natural and effective way to freshen up your living spaces. Lemongrass essential oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it a great choice for DIY cleaning solutions. Here's a simple guide on how to do it:

Ingredients and materials you'll need:

  1. Lemongrass essential oil (100% pure and natural)
  2. Distilled water
  3. White vinegar (optional, adds extra cleaning power)
  4. Glass spray bottle (preferably amber or dark-colored to protect the oil from light)
  5. Funnel (optional, but it makes pouring easier)
  6. Microfiber cloth or other cleaning cloth

Instructions:

  1. Select a suitable glass spray bottle: Choose a clean glass spray bottle with a capacity of at least 16 ounces (473 ml) or more 500ml is Ideal. The size will depend on how much cleaning solution you want to make.

  2. Prepare the essential oil mixture: The typical ratio for a basic lemongrass cleaning solution is 10-20 drops of lemongrass essential oil per 1 cup (240 ml) of water. If you want to add extra cleaning power, you can also include 1/4 to 1/2 cup (60 to 120 ml) of white vinegar. The vinegar helps to break down grease and grime, but it is optional if you prefer a milder scent.

  3. Add the essential oil to the bottle: Use a small funnel to help you pour the lemongrass essential oil into the glass spray bottle. Start with the recommended number of drops based on your chosen ratio. You can adjust the number of drops to your liking, but be cautious not to add too much, as essential oils are potent.

  4. Add water and optional vinegar: Fill the spray bottle with distilled water, leaving some space at the top for easy shaking. If you're using vinegar, add it after the water. The vinegar may create a slight reaction with the oil, causing some cloudiness, but it won't affect the cleaning power.

  5. Mix the solution: Gently shake the spray bottle to mix the ingredients. Avoid shaking too vigorously, as this can create excess foam.

  6. Label the bottle: To avoid any mix-ups, label the spray bottle with the contents and purpose, such as "Lemongrass Cleaning Solution."

Tips:

  • Always use 100% pure and natural lemongrass essential oil to ensure its effectiveness and safety.
  • Perform a patch test before using the solution on any delicate surfaces to ensure it doesn't cause damage or discoloration.
  • Avoid spraying the solution on sensitive electronic devices or screens, as the liquid could damage them.

Usage: Use your homemade lemongrass cleaning solution just like you would use any commercial cleaner. Spray it on countertops, glass surfaces, bathroom fixtures, and other areas that need cleaning. Wipe with a microfiber cloth or cleaning cloth to remove dirt, grime, and germs. The lemongrass essential oil will leave behind a refreshing scent, making your space feel clean and invigorating.
